If you hit the bumpers, you will be rewarded with 10 points. Players who successfully defeat the first enemy in a chain will be rewarded with 100 points. The defeat of the second enemy in the chain will gives you an extra 200 points. The third enemy in the chain helps you to obtain 500 points. You will have a bonus 1000 points for the 4th – 15th enemies. If you kill the 16th enemy, you will be given 10,000 points. If you complete the game faster, you will attain the bonus points. If you complete the level within 30 – 44 seconds, you will be awarded with a bonus 10,000 points.
Players that complete the level within 45 – 59 seconds, you will obtain 5000 points. When you complete the level within 1 to 1.5 minutes, you will receive 4000 points. By completing the level within 1.30 to 1.59 minutes, three thousand points will be awarded to you. If the level is completed in 2 – 2.59 minutes, you can have an extra of 2000 points. Those who manage to complete the level within 3 to 3.59 minutes will have 1000 points. If you complete the level within 4 – 4.59 minutes, you will be rewarded with 500 points. If you take 5 minutes finish the level, you will receive zero points.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 can be played in two players mode. If you select two players mode, you will compete with the other plyer in the split screen race. Every zone has a different background music. The special stage in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is same with Emerald Stage. The ranking of the players depend on many factors including score, time and etc. The more rings you collect, the higher you will rank. The number of item boxes that you broke also influences your ranking.
There is an additional Special Stage round If you score a draw with the second player. The teleport item and Robotnik item are present in the versus mode. Players can access the music setting through the options screen. The Genesis version requires you to enter a zone select code.
