PSP Games Download – Crystal Defenders For PSP

Tower Defense games have had a jump in popularity over the last year with the next generation consoles having several versions available via their respective stores. Today we look at one from Square Enix, a developer famous for their fantasy based role playing games.

Crystal Defenders was first made available on the iPhone and iPod and the PS3 version is set to become a big seller particularly as it is much in the same style as one of the stores biggest sellers – PixelJunk Monsters.

There are three ‘versions’ of Crystal Defenders available to the gamer – the W1 version is a straightforward take in which you will learn the majority of the enemies as well as learning the base classes and how to manage your money between rounds. Just like other tower defense games you are given a bonus depending on how many crystals you have left in your base. W2 is a slightly different version as it introduces Power Crystals which can be dropped near your units to give them more speed, attack range and power. W3 is the ultimate test as it combines all the previously learned tactics and throws a ridiculous amount of bad guys onto the screen to obliterate you.

Crystal Defenders is just what you would expect a Square Enix version of a tower defense game to look like. You are presented with an array of fantasy style characters to plonk on the playing fields, ranging from close up warriors to long distance mages and archers. Just to spice things up, you are able to use some of your crystals to magically cast a number of Final Fantasy style creatures to damage everything on screen and to add enhancements to your units. These are a last resort attack however only to use when all else is failing.

The maps are not that varied as you get a standard map system to learn the enemies and to keep the movement path simple, and an advanced path which has more directional forks in the road to make matters more complicated. All in all you get a total of twelve maps which I guess is acceptable… if a little limited.

Crystal Defenders is not the standard style of tower defense game, because the difficulty level is extremely high. I played the game for 2 hours before I experienced any kind of success with the first level and it really is a game of trial and error – tactics are massively important in completing the levels. You earn points on how many crystals you have left as well as your money resources and how many waves you managed to successfully complete (from a total of thirty with a boss level at the end).

So how does it play? It is a fantastic game marred slightly by the developers high demands for tactics. This is not a game you will win by simply placing a few upgraded warriors and archers in key positions. It ends up an in-depth game of various tactics (and failing!) as you try and ascertain the means necessary to defeat the next wave. This is not to say it is not massively addictive, it is – but the demands for learning the tactics are so high that many casual gamers will just lose interest after getting their ass handed to them for the first hour. Once I worked out a few tactics to get past the first few stages I was frustrated by my own inadequacies, but the feeling of victory after beating the boss was so rewarding I almost put my foot through the screen in joy.

Comparing it to Pixeljunk Monsters I can not help but feel that Crystal Defenders might fail commercially because of the insanely difficult challenges placed upon the player from level to level, but I am confident that it will be an acquired taste that a core group of players will adore.

Graphically there is nothing extraordinary about the design, however the character design is solid and the little touches add to the feeling of a fantasy world created by Square Enix. The animation is minimal and fast forwarding the action gives a Benny Hill kind of experience. Even the frame rate seems low which would tie in with the handheld phone market origins.

Crystal Defenders is a massively addictive downloadable game which may prove to be too much of a challenge to the mass market gamer who will surely lose interest long before he gets addicted – hook, line and sinker. For those of you reading this with more patience and the tendency to love a true fantasy environment then this deserves a purchase – you will spend a lot of time cursing the developers, but it will be immensely hard to put down the controller.

Internet Safety for Kids

How to protect your children on-line: Internet Rules as well as Technology

In order to fulfill the responsibility of protecting your children on-line, you must master the basics of the computer.  Only then can you guide them and teach them the do’s and don’ts of the Internet. Teach them to use the Internet safely, encourage them to share their experiences with you and enjoy the Internet along with them. Children should basically show respect to others on-line, just as you teach children rules of good behavior when they move in society.
Nevertheless, there is technology available, which can help to protect your children from any content that is not appropriate for them.  So you can use software to block this inappropriate content. Microsoft software, for example, has different types of software for this.  ’Windows Vista Parental Controls’ helps parents to manage, monitor and administer the use of computer by the children. Another software called ‘Windows Live OneCare Family Safety’ filters the information, so that even the child’s searches can be blocked, if they are inappropriate for its age. Even DVD movies and games can be restricted by a software called Xbox parental controls. There is another program called Safe Eyes that Dave Ramsey endorses. It targets key words and phases that could be dangerous. The newest problem now is text messaging both at school and while driving.  The newest program that I have seen is called Textsafety. It does not allow texting while driving. The parent has control over the times texting is allowed.
Besides, you can increase your security and privacy by making your children limited users in your Administrative Account, by giving them Limited User accounts. This restricts the children to change system settings, install any new software which includes chat programs, games, etc.
Protection of your child can also be done through your web browser. All that you have to do is to adjust your web browser security settings and web sites can then be assigned security levels.
Also you can keep track of the websites that the children are surfing. If you check out the History List in Internet Explorer, it is possible to see where the children have been surfing. Even email addresses, correspondence and downloaded files can be viewed by you.
Children should be taught to be careful during chats and instant messaging sessions and not to disclose personal identity, names, addresses and telephone numbers. This is how they become victims to imposters and predators.
Make your children aware of the hazards of the Internet and teach them how they can come out of difficult situations.  Having talks and discussions with children about the risks is important, and as parents one should set certain limits. If the safety of the children is taken care of, only then can Internet be a source of fun and information, without which the environment is incomplete.

My Top Ten Reasons For Using The Internet

1. News – Growing up my parents would always get the local newspaper every morning and read it before work or after work. Now print publications are falling faster than the economy due to online news. Instead of flipping through newspapers and paying a subscription fee, you can easily sit at your computer or laptop and getting all of latest local and world news for free.

2. Information – Most people are curious by nature, so the Internet provides a way for them to find an answer to any question the may have by simply asking a question. Search engine sites like Google, Yahoo, and now Bing offer a way for people to find and answers and other opinions to whatever question is on their mind.

3. Communication – People use to just pick up the phone and call somebody when they wanted to talk to them. Now a lot of people send emails as a way of communicating with someone else. I can relate to this a lot, being the coach of my sons basketball team the only way I can get in touch with most of the parents on my sons team is through emails because everyone tends to have different schedules. Email allows you to keep everyone on the same page without any confusion.

4. Recent Events – There are many things going on in the world that interest many different people. By using the Internet you can find out the scores of any sporting event on websites like ESPN.com. You can also find the next time there will be a concert or an event around your area. Or a recap of something you just missed going on due to your busy schedule.

5. Social Networking – Five years ago this wouldn’t have been in my top ten, but due to the growth of websites like Facebook, Twitter, Digg, and Myspace social networking is becoming one of the main reasons people log on today. Social networking allows people to get in touch with old friends they have not seen in years and keep in touch.

6. Entertainment – There are many ways to keep yourself entertained these days through the Internet. With video game sales being at an all time high, players can log in through game systems like Playstation 3 and Xbox Live t o play people in different states and countries. Also there is Youtube that has some of the funniest videos that I have ever seen in my life.

7. Download Files – The days of going to a store to buy CD’s are almost gone. Now you can log into sites like Itunes and download your favorite CD or songs right to your computer, IPOD, or MP3 player. You can also download movies and TV shows that you may have missed or wanted to see.

8. Marketing – Instead of paying $500,000 for a 30 second commercial on a major TV network. Companies are paying a 1/5 of that price to display Ads all over the Internet on sites that target their demographic audience. Small business owners also use the Internet to try and grow their business without spending a lot of money.

9. Online Banking – Today more than ever people are staying away from giving out private banking information over the phone or through the mail. With online banking it allows you set up dates for your bills to be paid directly out of your account on time so you don’t have to worry about late fees. You can also quickly check your balance and move money around without stopping into a bank and waiting around for the next available teller.

10. Online Education – Today parents who have little kids at home don’t really have time in their schedules to go to school at night after working a full day. Online schools allows them to come home spend time with the kids, and once they go to bed log online and start studying and working on getting their degree from a major university that could be 3000 miles away.
