PS3 or Xbox 360 – Which One To Pick?

PS3 and Xbox 360 are liked by the majority of gamers, yet the views and opinions differ from one person to another mostly based on the quality of the game hardware. PS3 and Xbox 360 are the next generation game consoles from Sony and Microsoft, and they are hugely popular as both consoles have great features. Yet debating which one has an edge proves to be difficult.

Xbox 360 game console was launched before PS3 and offered games more quickly than PS3. Apart from the benefit of having a plethora of games, the highlighting factor was the price of the Xbox 360, which was lower than of the PS3, and as a result the Xbox 360 was able to achieve good sales performance. PS3 had its own catchy features such as the game play, superb graphics, and a library of games similar to the Xbox 360 library size.

The hardware of PS3 is higher than Xbox, besides PS3 had integrated WiFi, gigabyte Ethernet connection connecting the net to play online games and an integrated web browser that allows browsing websites and playing videos through Youtube. Xbox 360 also features Ethernet connection, besides WiFi functionality can also be added. PS3 has wireless controller with inbuilt battery charged through PC USB port, while Xbox 360 has regular DVD drive. PS3 has blue ray drive promoting high definition movies, while Xbox 360 does not promote high definition movies that connects with every PS3.

PS3 has hard disk with higher capacity, yet a higher capacity disk is required as the majority of these games can be installed on the hard disk and the hard drive can be easily upgraded without any hurdle. Xbox 360 models come with component cables that are ready with high dimension, while PS3 comes with regular AV cables and the HDMI cable or the apposite component should be purchased separately. Xbox 360 offers a headset attaching the controller that facilitates chatting with friends online, while PS3 does not offer any headset, but the blue tooth can be used for chatting. However, PS3 appears more elegant in comparison to the Xbox 360 that looks bland.

Xbox 360 had a lead until 2007 with a definitive edge in gamed consoles, while PS3 platform was lesser in comparison to the Xbox 360 version. But, recently, the PS3 platform offers great games and is ultimately coming with exclusive games such that both the consoles have games in plenty. However, in India only 65% of the games are available, despite the fact that the games are launched only after a few weeks of international launching.

Xbox 360 offers multiplayer experience that can be played online over the globe and this service is known as Xbox Live and is a paid service, while on the other hand Ps3 Online comes free of charge. However, the Xbox live has more adequate features than PS3 online and is a mature service, but PS3 is also catching up, besides the online playing is showing great improvements. Conversely, PS3 online service is more robust as it uses dedicated internet servers in comparison to the Xbox Live that uses P2P for connection and that depends on the host connection that is frustrating at times.

Xbox 360 has had unreliable hardware pieces, which lead to a hardware failure known as RROD, and owing to this Microsoft increased the warranty period to 3 years, while PS3 relates to no problems such as RROOD. However, buying from a repute retail shop that offers warranty is highly recommended. Buying game consoles from grey market is strictly cautioned, while it may end up saving you some money, the product warranty may not be the best.

Ps3 Consoles – Definately Better Than My Ps2!

The PS3 Consoles can do so much more than a PS2. For one thing, it plays Blu-ray dvds and streams internet wirelessly. It also plays awesome games in great quality. I have mine hooked up to a normal tv, the same one I had my PS2 hooked up to. I used the basic cables that came with it and I could easily tell a difference in the graphics. It would look twice as good if I hooked it up to an HD tv with an HDMI cord. The wireless controller works well. There is a usb cable that plugs in the front. When your controller gets low, a message appears and all you do is plug it in and it charges while you play. But the charging cable isn’t very long and if you’re camped out farther away from your system, you’ll have to set up camp a little closer for the time being while it’s charging.

I have never owned the older version of PS3 Consoles, so I can’t say the pros and cons of this one vs. that one. But they say this one is quieter, more energy efficient, and smaller than the original. I never notice the noise of the fan when I am playing. Having it use less energy while still putting out the same great graphics is great too. This one is not PS2 compatible. Which is something I kind of wanted but considering this is the newest and cheapest model, I still went with this one. Only the very first model of PS3 Consoles is completely PS2 compatible. So then I was like, well I’ll just buy that one, it should be pretty cheap since its an old model. But I was wrong. That one sold for more than this one. Not just a few bucks either. You’d be lucky to get one for somewhere in the high 300s. So then I was like no way I’m paying $75-100 more for an older model that can’t do as much.

One of my favorite things about the slim is Netflix instant streaming. If you don’t have an account with them, your missing out. The cheapest you can get an account would be around $15 a month maybe. Now they have this box you can buy for $100 that allows you to instant stream movies for free. As many as you want, when you want. But if you get a Ps3 Slim, you just go on the Netflix website and they’ll send you a free disc. All you do is put it in your System, and it works the same as the instant box. The PS3 Consoles is like a do it all box.

Over all, I’m pleased with the system. It occasionally freezes, but it can be prevented with a little thing called cleaning your discs and allowing your PS3 Consoles breathing time. The latter is only an issue if you play more than about 6 hours at a time. Any less and it doesn’t matter. But I’ve found that after I been kickin’ some butt in a game for 6-10 hours, my PS3 Consoles freezes more often, which is only about a couple times a day, but it’s still annoying. If you play for a long time, here’s what you do. Play your PS3 Consoles till you eat lunch or dinner. Then when you go to eat (unless you eat while you’re playing) turn off your system. Then when you come back it’ll be nice and rested and be ready to accompany you on your next quest.

Is Hdmi Worth the Cost?

First off, what is HDMI? HDMI stands for High Definition Multimedia Interface. HDMI connects high definition video sources from DVD, Cameras, and set top boxes, to digital display devices such as plasma screens, LCD TV, video projectors, DLP and DILA video projectors, in a secure manner with an uncompressed digital video stream.

HDMI carries both audio and video signals, across a single cable with a compact 19 pin connector interface only 21mm across by 5mm high and much more robust than today’s Scart. HDMI is closely related to DVI. Various DVI-HDMI and HDMI – DVI converters are already available, allowing the two standards to work seamlessly together.

Some of the more important features of HDMI include:

- HDMI technology eliminates unnecessary signal conversions.

- HDMI technology supports standard, enhanced, or high-definition video at 24 bits/pixel, 165MHz max clock frequency.

- HDMI technology supports up to 8 channel digital audio on a single cable eliminating costly A/D signal conversions.

- HDMI offers Bi-directional control signal transfer.

- HDMI offers 5 Gbps bandwidth, 55% spared for future expansion.

- HDMI offers 1 simple, user-friendly connector.

- HDMI technology is backward compatible to DVI hot plug enabled assemblies up to 5 meters in length.

- Per HDMI standard, HDTV sent as 16×9 & SDTV as 4×3 over 30 AWG 100 ohm, .5 amp, 500 VAC DWV double shielded cable.

- Long Lengths available, ATC tested up to 12M and up to 40 M when using EQ technology.

HDMI has several other benfits and features. Now, let’s take a look at 2 other MAJOR benefits of HDMI.

- Instead of needing multiple HDMI cable assemblies for the video signal and multiple HDMI cables for the sound signal, HDMI integrates all video and sound signals onto a single, thin cable. It makes it very easy to connect components together.

- Instead of converting digital signals to analog (to run through the cables) and then back to digital, everything on an HDMI cable assembly remains in its original, uncompressed digital format.

When th dust settles, HDMI cables can be bought for nearly the same price as Component cables. Why spend the same amount on a bundle of cables, component cables, when you can buy a single cable, HDMI, and get digital video and audio? Our conclusion is HDMI is worth the money.

Ps3 Consoles – So Here’s The Bad

Plenty of reviews here talk about the technological prowess of the   and how it’s better than its competitors’ systems but few reviews focus on the frustrations that accompany purchase. So this 40+ year old, long-time gamer will with laser-like accuracy illuminate the bad.

* The physical design of the PS3 Consoles slim is only partially desirable. While smaller footprints are good, who at Sony thinks a convex (surface rounds out) case top is a good idea? It isn’t. Most of us put these machines in our audio visual cabinet with all our other components (including my old PS2 which I had to keep thanks to the PS3′s lack of backwards compatibility) and this unit has to be on top of any stack. Also, you
can’t rest anything on top of it (like controllers) after it’s turned off because they slide right off. Mo’ headaches.

* The PS3 Consoles comes with an A/V composite cable!? Yes, this technological wonder of a system comes with a cable to connect to TV’s from the 1980′s. That’s
a yellow/red/white pin cable in case I’m not clear. That will get you a 480i signal. Which means you have to buy either a Component cable (5 pins) or an
HDMI cable yourself in order to get an HD signal. Mo’ money.

* The PS3 Consoles is touted as a wonderful blu-ray player and should be the consumers’ choice for getting the best that a BD can offer. That might be the case but it would help if there was a remote control included. Mo’ money.

* The PS3 Consoles tries to be a bit of a green machine and it’s controller is rechargable. But the USB/USB-mini cable that connects the wireless, rechargable controller to the system is about 4.5 feet long. How many people sit 4.5 feet from their TV?! Not many, I’ll tell you. That means you’ll need to go out and buy yet  another (longer) replacement cable in order to play games while the controller is recharging. Mo’ money.

* The PS3 Consoles software library is so-so as most people are aware of. The PS3 game prices aren’t so-so. They are so-expensive. Most people thought PC games were expensive in comparison to game system software but the PS3 Consoles broke down that barrier. Most new titles are $10-20 more expensive on the PS3 as compared to the same title for a PC. Mo’ money.

* The PS3 Consoles (like all current game systems) tout multiplayer and yet they provide you with one controller which isn’t family friendly. Mo’ money

* And 2 USB ports really aren’t enough but mo’ money won’t solve that problem unless a USB hub is workable (and I haven’t tried that).

So in conclusion, buy your PS3 Consoles slim and make sure you put aside mo’ money.
